Seeing wild horses is a dream many people share, especially my fellow equestrians. Hot spring road trips into the Oregon high desert meant I was able to see them for myself. These incredible beings are highly social and are adept communicators. This piece is named for the speaking horse, Areion, from greek mythology because you can see the herd’s conversation by their body language, especially the ears. The fact of equine communication is a newer revelation and I am happy to see many equestrians beginning to pay attention to their language, leading to happier, healthier lives for these amazing creatures. 24”x36”, oil on wood panel, 2019

Becoming a mother myself, this image went straight to my heart. It is amazing what lengths mothers go to to protect and raise their offspring, and it is a trait that most humans share with animals. Exquisitely beautiful in every way, this is how life perpetuates itself on earth-- pure love. Black bears are peaceful animals, omnivorous, and deserve our complete respect rather than fear.
